Although he has moved on to pastures new, Guill was such an integral part of the jackdaw team that we simply had to include him here!

Guill joined the research group after completing his PhD at the University of St Andrews in 2012. An ever-present source of joy in the team since we put up the first nest boxes, Guill oversaw the field management that facilitated the Cornish Jackdaw Project’s growth into what it is today.

Aside from storing the entire jackdaw database in his head, Guill lead teams which used a synchronised camera array to look at the effects of heterogeneity and social substructure on group movement. He also investigated how animals learn and generalise about danger, and what we can learn about maternal condition and investment in reproduction from the size and colour of eggs.

Although the team miss Guill very much, we are so excited to follow his success in his new lab. You can keep up-to-date with his work here: guillmcivor.wordpress.com
